What is TEE TransesophAgeal Echocardiography?
A transesophageal echocardiogram is usually done when your doctor wants to look more closely at your heart to see if it could be producing blood clots. A unit is placed in the esophagus so images from a TEE can give clear pictures of the heart and its structures.
Preparation
- Do not eat or drink for 4 to 6 hours before the test. If taking any prescribed medications, please do with only a sip of water.
- Have someone drive you home after the exam.
